Wambli Gleksa is a cultural non-profit association, founded officially for voluntary services for the Tribal Council of the Lakota Tribe of Rosebud (South Dakota), for the President and the Council of Elders. The Association is officially recognised and registered to the Local Registry of associations for social promotions {Provincia di Firenze (ex L.R.T. 42/2002) with the act n 1819 del 28/05/2004- class: 13.01.01 rep ( 834838)}. 

      President of the Association is Dr Alessandro Martire, who is the only official representative of the Sioux people (Lakota-Sicangu) in Italy. Furthermore, he is an Honorary Member of the Lakota-Sicangu Nation as well as their International Lawyer, on the basis of the international resolutions of Lakota Sicangu Nation of Rosebud, n 202/95 -43/98- 44/98- 45/98 e n 165 issued on the 5^th of August 2008.

     Wambli Gleska Association was founded in 1995 in Italy, thanks to the will of Dr Alessandro Martire, in order to promote in Italy the traditional culture of the Lakota People, and also to promote recognitions and international relations with various “local authorities” for the defense of human rights for the Lakota Sioux Nation.

Dr Martire and Wambli Gleska Association have received from the Tribal Council of Rosebud Reservation (home of the Lakota Sicangu-South Dakota) and from the Oglala Lakota Nation of Pine Ridge Reservation written authorization (resolution from the Tribal Council and official representatives) for the development of initiatives of scientific, cultural and humanitarian services and also for the protection and recognition of human rights.    

The Association has no political or profit motives, is preserved and works only thanks to the voluntary collaborations of the subscribed members; the association can and will warmly accept financial support from Public Administrations and private sponsors.

The Association also functions as a link between the Tribal Council of Rosebud and the Italian Organizations interested for collaboration for the promotion of knowledge of the traditional Lakota Culture. Hence, the Association is involved in the organization of meetings, conferences and events with great outcome. For these purposes, it provides appropriately qualified translators, accepted officially from the Lakota Sioux Tribe that has as a prime criterion for collaboration the true intension for the profound knowledge and respect of its culture.

      Currently, the Association is realizing a project for Humanitarian services for the Hospital of “Porcupine Clinic” of Pine Ridge (South Dakota).

      The Association in collaboration with the Government of the Lakota Nation, has organized important educational, cultural, scientific and social events thanks to the additional collaboration of numerous Italian Local Authorities, of Provinces and Regions, such as the Regione a Statuto Speciale Sicilia. More particularly, in 1999 many important projects for young students were held as well as scientific seminars that permitted to many young Italians to be enrolled in academic studies in the USA, in the territorial borders of the aforementioned Native American Nation. In addition, opportunities were provided to Native American students for academic enrollment and relevant programs in Italy.
