SIOUX NATION-LAKOTA-SICANGU

South Dakota is the homeland of the Sicangu Lakota Nation. Sicangu Nation is a part of the great Sioux Nation that historically was composed by the Nations Dakota, Nakota and Lakota. Legendary leaders as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Spotted Tail, Gall belonged to the Sicangu people. These leaders are worldly known for their contribution to the defense of the freedom of their Nation and its survival against the massacre and genocide from the white colonials.
At the end of 1800 various “Indian Reservations” were established and among them Rosebud reservation, nowadays homeland of approximately 12.000 tribal members of the ethnic division of “Burn Tights”. According to the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, Rosebud Reservation has an internal sovereignty. Thus, it has its own Tribal Government, elected through democratic principles, has a Court of Justice, its own internal modest economy, many schools and an important Native American University recognized by the American Government of Washington. The University is named “Sinte Gleska” and offers programs for both tribal and non-tribal members.
The Lakota Sioux Nation of Rosebud maintains official relations with Italy since 1994. By 1995 international acts have been signed with reciprocity conditions with various Italian Regions, Provinces and Municipalities. Of equal importance are the academic relations with the University of Florence and in particular with the departments of Anthropology and Law.
